State Wrestling Tournament

Covenant competed in the VISAA State Wrestling Tournament on Feb. 18-19 at the Siegel Center on the VCU campus in Richmond.  The Eagles finished 17^th out of 32 teams and had three individual place winners.  Josiah Zodhiates led the team with a 2^nd place finish at 135 lb., making him the highest state tournament placer in Covenant wrestling history.  He breezed through the first two rounds, pinning his first-round opponent Will Hull (Norfolk Collegiate) in 1:25 and then winning in the quarterfinals by technical fall 15-0 over Christian Mitchell (Hargrave).  Josiah earned a 10-8 decision over Curtis Jeney (Bishop O’Connell) in the semifinals, before dropping his final match to All-American Taylor Whitt of Norfolk Academy.  The other two place winners for Covenant were Nathan Sieminski (7^th at 130 lb.) and David Collmus (8^th at 189 lb.).
